So I started my macpro5,1 journey with OCLP using the old standby Radeon RX580, which worked well, but pretty much made the PCIe slot next to unusable (or at least very tough to use).
Looking around for alternatives, I found the Radeon Pro WX5100/WX7100 line of workstation video cards, which are single-slot thin and do not need additional power (ie are PCIe slot powered).
I solved the boot screen issue by having ‘enableGOP’ flashed into my CMP’s firmware - which works well.
So far, the WX5100 has been working very well in my installation, driving a 49” ultra wide sceptre display at 120Hz and a separate 20” Dell display.
Mind you, I’m just doing normal regular usage, no fancy GPU work or gaming.
I feel that for a regular cmp workstation type utilization, the WX series workstation cards are ideal for OCLP users.
Thoughts?
