Hey everyone, I recently bought a Mac Mini 6,1 (Late 2012) — i5 dual-core, 8GB RAM — along with an Apple Thunderbolt Display for my coaching center’s reception desk. I mainly got it because the display still looks professional and large.
I’ve updated it to macOS 15 Sequoia since many apps like Chrome and others need at least macOS 11 or 13. But I feel macOS 15 is too laggy — the boot time is long, and it takes around 15–20 seconds after login for the wallpaper and desktop icons to appear.
So I have a few questions:
Which macOS version runs smoothest and most stable on this model while still being compatible with modern apps (like Chrome, Figma, etc.)?
Is there any way to upgrade the CPU or RAM in this model? I’ve never opened it before and don’t know whether it has accessible RAM slots or soldered parts.
Any suggestions or personal experiences would really help. Thanks in advance! 🙏
