Previously Working Hackintosh Install Now Doesn't Work

Hello Reddit,

Until yesterday, I had a very nicely working Hackintosh setup:

  • i5 3570K CPU
  • ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 Motherboard
  • GTX 970 GPU

I'd previously installed El Capitan using the vanilla Clover method, and then upgraded to Sierra using the Mac App store. So yesterday, I decided to install the 10.12.5 update, also through the App Store. All was going well, and the machine restarted. When the installer had approx. 8 minutes left it restarted again, and threw me into a kernel panic. I couldn't seem to do anything to skip past the kernel panic and get back into macOS.

Anyways, I decided that I wanted to do a fresh install. Since getting everything setup I'd mucked about with it quite a lot so wanted to start from scratch. I was able to boot into an El Capitan backup I had (about 6 months old), and so I created a new bootable Clover/Sierra USB stick.

However, when I now try to boot the machine from the USB stick, I still get a kernel panic! I'm so confused given that this system was happily running a very stable Hackintosh before...grr..

I've wiped the drive that I had macOS Sierra installed on, including the EFI partition that had the Clover install. So for now, I can't get back into my old El Cap installation either. However I have a MacBook Pro too so I can use that if I need to re-make the USB or add any extra files. I've also used the Clover UEFI Shell to delete all the old Clover boot entries (except the ones for the USB drive).

Here's the guide I've been using for the install: https://9to5mac.com/2017/04/28/building-a-gtx-1080-ti-powered-hackintosh-installing-macos-sierra-step-by-step-video/

And here's a picture of the kernel panic: http://i.imgur.com/zrxNP5v.jpg

As per the guide I linked I've only been copying over FakeSMC.kext and AppleIntelE1000e.kext into the kexts folder. I know the Z77 Extreme4 can be a bit funky, but when I installed this previously I could at least get the USB stick to boot with no issues, now I can't even get that far!

Any help greatly appreciated.
