Last year my late 2013 Macbook Pro really started to feel.. old. In an attempt to wait Apple out and get a realistic replacement for it (No, the emojibooks do not count) I upgraded to an egpu (980ti) earlier this year in an attempt to eek a little more time out of it.
egpu life is not for the faint of heart and having to shutdown/restart everytime I wanted to work in the living room or go on a trip just got old old old.
So, a nagging need + a bunch of free money courtesy of a pre-run-up purchase of Monero resulted in a trip to ye olde NewEgg and a bitcoin purchase of my new rig. I could have saved a few bucks and played PcPartsPicker Roulette but the convenience of paying with Bitcoin kept me at Newegg
After about 8 hours of playing I have a dual booting Win10/High Sierra rig that is fully functional all the way down to iMessage, iTunes, xCode and all hardware. Most of that 8 hours was spent chasing down the nVidia/High Sierra setup path which, in the end, was pretty simple to deal with once i had my head around it.
This combo seems really well supported under High Sierra, from the Realtek 1220 audio to the Intel gig LAN.
The biggest difference though? IT IS QUIET FINALLY. I never realized how loud and constantly the macbook pro fans were running.
