Greetings,
I located a late 21.5" 2012 iMac (i5 2.9 GHz) with a 500 GB SSD in pristine condition that's a steal and want to transform it to a work computer to be used at the office with OpenCore.
It will be mainly used as a work PC for Office 365 apps and casual photo editing with Photoshop & Illustrator.
I had a few questions on deciding which macOS to go with as a fresh install.
- Is the SIP unavailable/disabled on both versions? I have read on OpenCore installation documentation that root patching disables SIP on Monterey notes and cant be enabled, but there was nothing concerning this issue on Ventura documentation. Is it because the situation carries over or Ventura is able to keep SIP enabled?
- Which OS would have the better performance and more fluid on this machine? (launching & operating apps etc) Would it be a slog?
- Which OS has better Boot Camp support?
- Is anything major broken on either OS on their latest versions?
- Does Live Text work with this machine on Ventura?
- Which OS in their current builds would you think is more stable? Are there major differences in stability with their current builds?
It would be immensely appreciated if people with day-to-day experiences who could give detailed info regarding these questions. Downtime would be a bit of an issue, but we also would like to keep getting those security patches as much as possible, that's why Ventura is still a serious consideration.
I realize that the devs have heavily moved onto developing support for Sonoma, so if there are too many lingering issues with Ventura that would take ages, if at all, to get fixed, it would also heavily influence my decision towards Monterey instead of Ventura.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read all this.
