Airplay to Ventura on a 2017 Retina 5K iMac blurry

I recently used OCLP to enable Airplay and Mac mirroring on my Ventura (native) iMac. The iMac is 2017 iMac model, with a 27" Retina 5K display. Ventura is the latest MacOS supported by Apple on this particular model of Mac.

In the past I've had issues with MacOS on unsupported Macs, so opted to simply enable locked out features (i.e., Airplay) with OCLP. That said, it's been pretty successful so far.

Although 5K remains unavailable, at 1080p and 4k resolutions everything looks very sharp. However text tends to be too large at 1080p, and too small at 4K on a 27" display. When I tried a couple of the "in-between" resolutions (2560x1440 and 2880x1600) the text was hideously blurry. I suppose that this is because Airplay is optimized for TV resolutions. However I'm hoping there is a way to sharpen non-broadcast resolutions. Any suggestions?

System information: the "source" is an M4 Pro Mac mini and the "target" is a 2017 5K 27" iMac. They are currently connected via Thunderbolt, so bandwidth should not be an issue.
