Understanding Native vs Patched Hardware Support
If OCLP says 'No patches required' for your 2014 MacBook Pro on macOS Monterey, it's not a bug—it's because your hardware is natively supported for that specific OS.
The Reason:
- Intel Haswell/Iris: The 2014 MBP uses Intel Haswell graphics, which Apple officially supported in Monterey. OCLP only applies root patches when the OS doesn't have the drivers (like in Ventura or Sonoma).
- OpenCore Benefit: You are still using OpenCore to 'spoof' a newer Mac model to get the update, but the drivers themselves are already part of Monterey.
- Future Proof: If you decide to upgrade to Sonoma, you will then see the 'Root Patches Required' message.
Original Question: "No root patches required after a fresh install of Monterey"
Hello, this is my first upgrade using the OCLP version 2.4.1.
So yeah, while My Macbook 13 Pro Mid 2014 (intel gpu) was a creating the installation media. I read on the website that it’s essential to install root patches right after fresh installation. But it gives me no patches to be downloaded.
Is that a some type of a bug or patching is not required?
