How to Factory Reset a 2012 Mac (Removing OCLP)

Returning to a Clean, Native macOS State

If OCLP Sequoia is too slow and you want to go back to 'Factory Settings' on your 2012 Mac, you need to bypass the OpenCore bootloader.

The Steps:

  1. Internet Recovery: Shut down. Hold Cmd + Option + R and turn it on. This boots into Apple's official servers, NOT the OCLP version.
  2. Wipe Drive: In Disk Utility, select the 'Internal' disk (usually called Apple SSD), click Erase, and choose 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' with 'GUID Partition Map'.
  3. Reinstall: Exit Disk Utility and select 'Reinstall macOS'. It will install macOS Catalina, which is the last officially supported version for your Mac.
