Stuck on Apple Logo with Progress Bar on iMac: Troubleshooting Guide

Introduction:

If your iMac is stuck on the Apple logo with a progress bar, and you're unable to boot into Safe Mode using the usual methods, this guide will help you troubleshoot the issue and potentially resolve it.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Wait for Completion:

    • Sometimes, the progress bar may take longer than expected to complete. Leave your iMac running for an extended period to see if it progresses beyond the 40% mark.
  2. Perform a PRAM/NVRAM Reset:

    • Shut down your iMac.
    • Turn it back on and immediately press and hold Command + Option + P + R keys simultaneously.
    • Keep holding the keys until you hear the startup chime for the second time.
    • Release the keys and let your iMac boot normally. Check if it progresses past the Apple logo.
  3. Boot into Recovery Mode:

    • Shut down your iMac completely.
    • Turn it back on and immediately press and hold Command + R keys until the Apple logo appears.
    • Release the keys when you see the Apple logo and wait for the macOS Utilities window to appear.
    • From there, you can try repairing your disk using Disk Utility or reinstalling macOS.
  4. Boot from External Drive:

    • If you have a macOS installer on an external drive, connect it to your iMac.
    • Turn on your iMac and immediately press and hold the Option key until the Startup Manager appears.
    • Select the external drive with the macOS installer and see if you can boot from it.
  5. Seek Professional Help:

    • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there's a hardware problem with your iMac.
    • Contact Apple Support or take your iMac to an authorized service provider for further diagnosis and repair.

Conclusion:

By following the troubleshooting steps outlined in this guide, you can attempt to resolve the issue of your iMac being stuck on the Apple logo with a progress bar. If the problem persists, consider seeking professional assistance to diagnose and fix any underlying hardware or software issues.
