Got iMessage to work... sort of.

So I've been trying to get iMessage to work all day, and I finally did. Only problem is that it's not my account. The account I got working was my parents account. It won't let me log in with my account. I tried even making a new Apple ID, and that didn't work either. Any ideas why?
