How to boot directly from an NVMe SSD?

So I'm wondering if I understand it right. First i need to patch the config.plist on my USB Stick to able to install Sierra on the NVMe SSD and after that I can use the NVMe SSD patch and install clover? Because actually could never boot directly from my SSD and need my USB Stick to boot into MacOS ^{^}
