Is every new install for a specific OS identical?

Every guide I've ever read says to start with a download from the App store, creating the installer, installing, etc.

Is it possible to just clone a new install on one machine and then copy it to another and change the clover config/kexts to get it to boot? OSX isn't like Windows where every install seems to be unique, is it? Every install of Sierra has the same Apple kexts as every other one, right?
