Hey guys, looking to put together a budget hackintosh build. I'm mainly hoping to use an ex-lease OEM system for this since I can obtain them quite affordably, but I really need USB 3.0 to work. I have been using an Optiplex 760 until it has recently died and the only thing that really annoyed me was the lack of USB 3.0.
I have a Lenovo M91p and Dell Optiplex 790 I could use, but they both do not have USB 3.0, and from what I can see there are very few low-profile USB 3.0 cards that will work on MacOS High Sierra. I've also read that Intel-based USB3.0 the best bet for compatibility so I'd like to stick to a system that has that. As such I was looking at alternatives such as the Lenovo M92p / M93p, HP Elite 8300, HP EliteDesk 800, HP Prodesk 600, Dell Optiplex 7010, Dell Optiplex 9020, etc. Generally speaking these are third and fourth gen i5 systems sitting on the Q77 or Q87 chipset. I already have a USB sound card so not fussed about audio compatibility, but I just want the essentials to work reliably.
If anyone could make a suggestion or have experiences with USB 3.0 on the above systems that would be greatly appreciated - I have done a bit of searching and I can't get a clear answer on the current stability of USB 3.0.
