Golden Hackintosh for hobby video editing

The following is a description for a purpose built hackintosh configured for hobby video editing and light productivity. Components were chosen for compatibility and noise reduction.

Due to issues with High Sierra, the system runs 10.12.6. The SSD and HDD are joined together as a single 2.2TB Fusion drive.

Components

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H270M-DS3H
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-7500
  • GPU: Asus ROG-STRIX-RX560-4G-GAMING
  • RAM: 16GB of the cheapest ram I could find
  • SSD: Samsung 850 EVO m.2, 256GB (connected over mSATA)
  • HDD: 2TB Seagate Barracuda
  • Case: CoolerMaster Silencio 352
  • Wireless: Broadcom BCM943602BAED (natively supported), with an adapter to PCIe
  • Monitor: Dell P2415Q (4k, connected over DisplayPort)

Status

All components seem to be working perfectly. This includes:

  • Graphics, including GPU acceleration
  • 4K@60Hz seems to be fully functional, although I haven't gamed on it yet
  • Audio. This is also the only issue; audio does not autodetect, instead showing all outputs as selectable at all times, even if there is no jack plugged in. Furthermore, rear "line out" port shows up as "internal speakers". Apart from labelling, audio is fully functional.
  • USB
  • Front SD card reader
  • Bluetooth, including automatic connection of (Apple) peripherals at boot.
  • Sleep mode
  • Shutting down

Fixes

Build is fully vanilla, with one exception: the SD card needed editing in AppleUsbCardReader.kext, which is located inside AppleStorageDrives.kext, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to do that in clover...

Other fixes, which are all done via clover:

  • RealtekRTL8111.kext
  • AppleALC.kext (including Lilu.kext of course)
  • Whatevergreen.kext
  • BrcmPatchRam.kext
  • FixShutdown_0004 (this one took me quite a long time to figure out...)
