HD7950 + 10.13.4: black screen when trying to boot using USB installer

setup: HD7950 connected to a Dell monitor via DVI. Monitor only has DVI and VGA inputs. My motherboard is an Intel S2600CP2 (dual CPU and built-in vga output is provided by 3rd party)

---------------

The USB installer was working fine when I had a GTX770 in the desktop. I swapped the HD7950 and the only things I've changed in Clover config.plist is to (using Clover Configurator) untick nv_disable=1 in the boot options. In the graphics tab, "Inject ATI" has always been unticked.

This USB installer was created via "createinstallmedia" facility in the macOS.app and then installing clover on top. let's call this "my-usb" for now.

As a test:

  1. I tried unibeast and I encountered the same issue
  2. on the unibeast and my-usb installer, I changed the framebuffer to hamachi and no effect.
  3. on both installers, I enabled/ticked "radeondeinit" and no effect. I tried this with and without hamachi framebuffer.
  4. on both installers, I disabled/removed any ticked options/text (free text field like vendor ID) and used WhateverGreen+Lilu (copied to EFI/CLOVER/kext/Others) and no effect.

Any more ideas?

ps. and I honestly thought AMD cards are better supported compared to Nvidias...
