Why is UEFI mode for Windows needed to dual boot?

Hey everyone! I have a working dual boot setup, but it doesn't really follow the guide in the sidebar when it comes to installing Windows in UEFI mode.

I have two nvme drives. I installed Windows in legacy mode on drive A and followed the vanilla guide to install MacOS on drive B. I also copied over the EFI folder to the partition on drive B.

Everything seems to work fine! Why is UEFI mode necessary? I want to do it right, and I'd rather fix it early when I don't have any data to worry about.

I also have another semi-related question. Clover shows the following boot options:

  • FileVault Prebooter from Preboot
  • macOS Install Prebooter from Preboot
  • macOS from MacOS (drive B)
  • Recovery from Recovery
  • Windows from Legacy HD1
  • Windows form Legacy HD2

Both Windows options boot into the same thing. Why are there two? Thanks!
