Can i outsource my bootloader to a seperate drive and then never ever mess with it again?

I have a spare SATA m.2 SSD on my hand as well as a free port.

Can I just install Clover on it and then never ever have to reinstall it when macOS does an update?

If no, are there any other advantages?
