Continuity not fully working with recommended hardware

I've recently bought and installed a highly recommended combination for enabling Continuity on laptops: DW1520 (uses Bcm943224hms chip) and IOGEAR GBU521. I've patched AirPortBrcm4360.kext and ran Continuity Activation Tool. I've then logged out of iCloud on both devices and restarted them, logging back in.

What worked already:

• iMessage
• FaceTime

What suddenly started working:

• AirDrop
• The iPhone now shows as an available personal hotspot

What still doesn't work:

• The Handoff icon for Safari, Mail etc does not show up
• Joining the Personal Hotspot fails with a message
• There's still no option for Unlock With Apple Watch in security and privacy

The system is Sierra 10.12.0. What am I doing wrong?
