Hi everyone,
After coming from this other successful thread from a year and a half ago: https://old.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/yklb7i/90_success_10_help_ventura_nvidia_gtx_770/ I carfeully prepared the migration from Ventura to Sonoma... and I succeded. I just upgraded my desktop PC Hackintosh box to Sonoma 14.4, (with a bit of struggle in the Wifi Department). Finally everything became perfect thanks to OCLP (and many forum pages/tutorials/hints/etc... Some of them faulty!!)
These are the specs of my machine:
- MOBO: Asus Z97 Pro wifi ac
- CPU: Core i7-4790K Haswell 4000 MHz (4 cores) (Socket 1150)
- internal GPU: Intel HD 4600 (not really used, as I have an external supported GPU)
- external GPU: Nvidia GTX 770 2GB (GK104 -> Kepler architecture, natively supported via OCLP )
- RAM: 32 GB (Crucial DDR3 1867 Mhz 4x8GB)
- Wifi/BT: Internal, comes with the mobo itself. (Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac, Wifi PCI ID: 14e4,43b1 )
- Ethernet: Internal, comes with the mobo itself. (Intel I218-V) working.
- Sound: Internal, comes with the mobo: Using AppleALC and "alcid=1" boot param I get full sound output.
- 3 HD's
- Kingston SSD Clover Windows 10 128GB
- Kingston SSD Clover Mojave 10.14.6 240GB (now largely forgotten)
- Samsung SSD 860 EVO M.2 OpenCore Sonoma 14.4 500GB
- OpenCore 0.9.8
Of course, with this allegedly old machine OCLP is now needed for 2 things: GPU Nvidia patch + Wifi Broadcom patch. Side note: I'm using OCLP 1.4.2
For the wifi I had to super tweak (a bit more) my already tweaked opencore config.plist adding some additional kexts and fine tune some parameters regarding the wifi device. I Will explain it later (here) If someone needs help, I will gladly provide the tweaks I considered crucial.
I'm really glad I managed to push the limits of this 2014 machine :) Still yields AMAZING cpu power and performance, everything feels really smooth.
Disclaimer: As with Ventura, there are a pair of glitches/situations that still don't work properly, be warned. Here I list them:
1.- Firefox shows funny green horizontal glitches when playing certain videos. No other web browser (or piece of software) shows this behaviour while playing videos... Does it seem related to some kind of GPU rendering engine that firefox wants to use? unknown...
2.- Xcode simulators show a black screen if their target is 15.5 or higher (rendering them unusable)... OTOH, If you deploy to ios 15.2 simulator targets (or lower) said simulators work perfectly fine.
Any hint regarding how to "fix" these 2 issues?, or what can be the reason for these behaviours? I would be glad to debug them, it's been a mistery for me in the last year and a half.
Greetings!!
