I built a custom PC with my son and he would like to turn it into a hackintosh to run Final Cut Pro, to learn detailed video editing, which I plan to buy him an education license for.
He reviewed some YouTube videos saying I can turn my PC into a hackintosh by installing a compatible dedicated graphics card. We currently have a GeForce RTX 3060 TI to run with Windows 11. He tried running macOS Sonoma but it shows only 8MB of display memory, likely due to the graphics card not being compatible.
He would like to purchase and install a separate dedicated graphics card to run it as a hackintosh.
I wanted to validate this with a knowledgeable community and learn about what to expect.
Would the performance of a hackintosh disappoint him for Final Cut Pro? He's convinced the cost savings over getting Apple hardware is worth it, but I'm skeptical.
If we decide to go forward, which graphics card would effectively run Final Cut Pro on macOS Sonoma as a hackintosh? We are looking at the Radeon RX 580 (VRAM 8GB) and the Radeon RX 6500 XT (VRAM 4GB).
