Hey everyone, I've been doing some testing at work with older desktops to see if a PCIe to M.2 adapter will speed them up and determine if the SSD is holding them back. The M.2 made my new HP Z440 way faster! Now, I need to know how to install macOS on this device.
It's a generic Amazon adapter that the BIOS detects, but not OpenCore. I made my config.plist following the instructions closely, and everything works when I load into the OpenCore (external) (dmg) in terms of ports. However, I don't see the M.2 drive.
I haven't found a regular "install macOS" option, and I've tried using my own EFI and some community EFIs as well.
On a side note, I actually had a build working on a Z420 for over a year and it was fantastic! However, the amount of plugins I used in Logic Pro became too much for the CPU. So, rather than upgrading the CPU, I just snagged a free Z440 with a better processor.
TL DR
- Upgraded HP Z420 to Z440 for better CPU performance in Logic Pro.
- PCIe to M.2 adapter sped up Z440 in windows but macOS installation not working.
- OpenCore sees mb ports but not M.2 drive. Needs help with config.plist for generic adapter.
