Hackintosh Compatibility Guide: Preparing for macOS Sequoia and Tahoe Installation

Hackintosh Compatibility Checklist for macOS Sequoia & Tahoe

Before attempting to install modern macOS versions like macOS Sequoia or Tahoe on your PC, verify that your hardware meets the compatibility standards for OpenCore bootloader.

Step 1: CPU and GPU Verification

  • Intel CPUs: Supported from Intel Core 7th Gen (Kaby Lake) up to 10th Gen natively. Intel 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th Gen require spoofing and a dedicated GPU.
  • AMD CPUs: Ryzen 1xxx, 2xxx, 3xxx, 5xxx, and 7xxx series are highly compatible using AMD kernel patches.
  • Graphics (GPU): AMD Polaris (RX 470/480, 570/580/590), Vega, and Navi (RX 5000, 6000 series except 6700 XT) are natively supported. Intel integrated graphics (UHD 630) are supported up to Ventura/Sonoma but require patches for Sequoia/Tahoe. Nvidia GPUs are not supported in modern macOS versions.

Step 2: Check SSD Compatibility

Certain NVMe SSD drives cause severe file system corruption and kernel panics under macOS:

  • Incompatible: Samsung PM981, PM991, and Micron 2200/2500 series.
  • Compatible: Western Digital Blue/Black (SN750, SN850) and Crucial P3/P5 series.

Step 3: Setup the EFI Folder

  1. Follow the Dortania Guide to create your EFI folder with the latest version of OpenCore.
  2. Add required kexts: VirtualSMC.kext, Lilu.kext, and CPU power management kexts.
  3. Generate a valid SMBIOS corresponding to your hardware configuration (e.g., iMac19,1 or MacBookPro16,1).
