Weird USB drive issue

On High Sierra, 10.13.1.

I'm having a strange issue with external USB 3.0 drives. When I boot with them connected, OSX doesn't see them at all (they don't appear in Disk Utility or diskutil). However, if I put the computer to sleep or if it goes to sleep on its own, on wake they appear as connected and everything works fine.

Specs: i5 4670K Gigabyte Z170M-D3H

Vanilla install, with USBinjectall kext and the USB limit patches in config.plist, Clover 4233.
