Hello r/hackintosh,
So I've been purchasing PC parts slowly and gradually to build my dream gaming rig/Hackintosh (for work) and it's come down to the time I install macOS—Windows is up an running and hoping to do the same on the Hackintosh side. Looking to get a dual monitor setup going. Here's my current hardware:
Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor
Asus - Prime Z370-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Samsung - 860 Evo 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
NVIDIA - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Founders Edition Video Card

Here are my motherboard settings (taken from an Asus motherboard build on Hackintosher):
1 Exit → Load Optimized Defaults : Yes 2 Advanced \ CPU Configuration → Intel Virtualizaiton Technology: Enabled 3 Advanced \ System Agent (SA) Configuration → Vt-d: Disabled 4 Advanced \ PCH Configuration → IOAPIC 24-119 Entries: Enabled 5 Advanced \ Onboard Devices Configuration → RGB LED Lighting → When system is in sleep, hibernate or soft off states: OFF 6 Advanced \ AMP Configuration → Power On By PCI-E/PCI 7 Advanced \ Network Stack Configuration → Network Stack: Disabled 8 Advanced \ USB Configuration -> Legacy USB Support: Auto 9 Boot → Fast Boot : Disabled 10 Boot → Secure Boot → OS Type : Other OS
For starters, this would be my second Hackintosh build, as I was able to successfully install macOS Sierra on my last rig with a Vanilla install. I'm hoping to do the same with this rig instead of turning to Unibeast or other similar tools, though I've read comments in the Ramblings of a Hackintosher that it isn't as 'easy' as it seems making a Vanillla install and using said tools would be much easier. But, like previously mentioned, I was ble to create a Vanilla install for macOS Sierra and having the hardest time doing so for macOS High Sierra.
Side note: I'm not set on installing macOS High Sierra, it's what's available on the App Store and have no option (that I know of) of downloading macOS Sierra.
Here are some of the guides I've tried following with no success getting past the Apple logo after booting from the USB installer:
https://www.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/68p1e2/ramblings_of_a_hackintosher_a_sorta_brief_vanilla/ : when it comes to this guide, the most current comment is from about 8 months ago, so not sure how out-of-date this information is. Also: I seem to get lost when it comes to editing/adding to the XML file (I don't remember having to do this for macOS Sierra). I've tried using the config.plist that Clover's Install Package creates and u/corpnewt provided with the black serial number.
https://hackintosher.com/guides/high-sierra-install-full-guide/ : this gets me past the Apple logo with flashes on the screen and this message afterwards:
APFSStart:1454: Mounting with apfs_efi_osx-748.21.6 efi_container_create:1077: -efi_container_create, status = 800000000000007
https://hackintosher.com/forums/thread/success-guide-asus-rog-maximus-x-hero-z370-hackintosh-build.15/ : I honestly don't recall what this does, but I believe it's the same result as above (I've tried a lot of things and I've lost track). Tried following this guide since it's an Asus motherboard and OP stated this guide could be used with pretty much any Asus motherboard.
- Tried installing with 1080ti installed and monitor plugged into it using HDMI and Display Port
- Tried removing 1080ti and plugging in monitor directly to motherboard with HDMI
- Tried starting from scratch and creating a new USB installer and repeating some of the guides for a second / third time
I'm at a roadblock and looking for help from peeps much smarter than me. Please let me know if there are any other details you might need frole to help me get on the right path.
Thanks for reading.
