Just Built My First Hackintosh!

So I just built my first Hackintosh using the directions you guys have compiled here over the eons and it shockingly went better than I could have imagined.

My system:

  • ASUS Z270-A motherboard
  • 32gb DDR4
  • eVGA GTX 1060
  • WD Black NVME SSD 512gb

What works: Nvidia drivers (more or less), HPFS+ drive (I didn't dare convert to APFS because I read enough horror stories online how hit/miss it is in Hackintosh builds). Intel onboard wireless card, USB3 XHCI, all the CPU functions (throttling, cooling, etc). Mouse, keyboard (duh) and my gaming headset shockingly works too.

I'd say to anyone who has ever thought of doing this that might read this post, go ahead and try it. It's not only easier than you thought - it's way rewarding.

With that being said, I do have some questions I haven't been able to find answers to:

  • My system seems to only boot when the USB pen drive I used to initially install it is inserted at boot. Can I fix this somehow or am I boned? I don't really care tbh - it can sit in the back of my machine all day long I'm more curious than anything
  • Nvidia drivers - where can I find better ones? Or should I just man up and grab a AMD card instead? Right now I am using what passes for the latest 10.13.6 web drivers and it's pretty damn jagged almost like there's no acceleration or something. Again, one of those things I can live with but would prefer to fix if I can
  • Is it possible to use Apple's wireless keyboard/mouse? I hate not having access to some things like being able to click+drag to take screenshots (which Apple does so damn well).
