Can I install Mac Os onto a drive with files without erasing them?

My PC has a 120GB SSD that I use for Windows and a 1TB Hard Drive that I use for games, programs, etc. If I create a partition of the 1TB HDD, will Disk Utility be able to recognize the partition during the installation without messing with the files in the other partition of the drive, or does it only recognize single drives?
