RX 560 DVI port only works after sleep

I’ve had issues with my DVI port not working since I installed that card and I finally found the solution tonight so I thought I would share.

Specs: Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65 gaming CPU: i5 4690 GPU: Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX 560 4GB OS: Mojave 10.14.2

I was using a TV connected via the HDMI port as my only screen for a while, but now I need to use my older DVI monitors again, but when I would plug one in, both the DVI monitor and the TV would go black and I’d have to restart without the DVI monitor plugged in. After searching tonight, I found a post saying that their port worked after sleep, so I used VNC to put the computer to sleep and when I woke it up, it worked. Then I found another post about a different motherboard and GPU combo saying CSM has to be enabled, which has a different name related to Windows in the MSI BIOS settings. Mine happened to be “Windows 8/8.1 Feature”. I enabled that and now my DVI port works.

The Clover GUI was a very low resolution after enabling that feature, and I enabled “Load VBIOS” in clover configurator and that took care of that problem. One other issue that seems to be related to this setting is that there is now a delay between when the login window shows up and when my keyboard and mouse get power. This used to happen on rare occasions in the past, but tonight it was doing it on each boot after enabling that setting. The delay is probably around 10 seconds max.
