Specs:
MOBO: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 7
CPU: i7-7700K
GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ RX580
Recently switched over from a GTX 970 to an RX580 so I can make the jump to Mojave, plus I was hoping for better Final Cut Pro performance. I removed all Nvidia drivers and flags, and the RX580 worked OOTB, although in BIOS I had to adjust iGPU from disabled to enabled and set my primary display output as PCI-1 to get Final Cut to launch and preview to work properly.
Unfortunately, without any further adjustments, Final Cut was only using the Intel iGPU to process and render. To say it was very slow is an understatement.
To get the iGPU and the RX580 working together in tandem as intended in Final Cut, I followed this guide: https://hackintosher.com/guides/fix-rendering-issues-fcpx-high-sierra/
It worked fantastically! Now the CPU, iGPU, and dGPU were all sharing their fair load and rendering was lightning fast - I was exporting 4K videos in a matter of minutes. Insane compared to the GTX 970!
But then the first time my hackintosh went to sleep, upon wake the graphics got very choppy, very noticeably when minimizing windows. Final Cut was sluggish and there were a lot of artifacts during playback. XRG reported 100% of the RX580 was under load, even though the temp was 28C and the fans weren't spinning. GPU monitor in Activity Monitor reported 0% RX580 activity.
Restarting the computer fixed the issue. For now, I've gone into energy settings and set it to never sleep. I always power it off when I'm done using it anyways, so the problem is "solved", it just really bugs me that something isn't working right. I've had a hackintosh for so long you'd think I get used to at least one function being buggy, but up until this point my new build was working perfectly!
Thanks for any insight.
