So, here's the deal
When initially setting up my hack on Sierra, all went well with the exception of the expected audio and ethernet kext fixes. I tried many many many different fixes for audio until I was able to get sound open my hack. The final and working solution for me was VoodooHDA.kext. Everything seemed to work including the preference pane and toolbar settings.
However, those previous multiple attempts to get audio fixed seem to have come back to haunt me. Somewhere along the line, I started to notice that toolbar new/unneeded sound preferences were appearing and needed/working ones were disappearing along with the ability to actual hear sound. This would happen sporadically, in the middle off anything. no clear triggers. I would listen to YT and all is well then, BANG, options changed no sound.
I looked into this issue a little further knowing this is obviously a kext conflict issue. I dug around and sure enough, my folders looked like this:
S/L/E: AppleHDA.kext, AppleHDADisabler.kext, VoodooHDA.kext
L/E: VoodooHDA.kext
EFI/EFI/Clover/kexts/Other: AppleALC.kext, AppleHDA.kext, Codeccommander.kext, lilu.kext & VoodooHDA.kext.
So, somehow, these folders had repopulated with kexts from the previous methods. I thought, "Ok, I'll just remove all of this conflicting kexts, repair perms then rebuild the cache, restart, profit. NOPE!
Removing even a single one of these kexts not only destroys working sound, I can't even boot without USB and flags.
In order for my hack to even boot, all these kexts seem to need to stay in place.
What in the actual F is going on here and how do I fix it?
