Hey folks, I built a Hackintosh many years ago following tonymacx86 but that machine is long gone. I'm interested in building another one for a fresh start and I want to keep it around $1000 USD.
My main criteria are
- CPU speed
- Probably going to do Intel Core i9-9900k Coffee Lake 8-Core
- Quiet
- My current 2015 MacBook Pro creates an absolute racket in front of my face on my desk, so I want something as close to silent as I can get.
I don't really care about GPU and plan on using the CPU's iGPU if possible. Do the Intel iGPU's work well in Hackintosh land these days?
I'm still selecting components and looking for some compatibility recommendations, particularly wrt motherboard.
Ideally I want to do Mini-ITX or Micro-ATX for case and motherboard, BUT considering that I want a powerful CPU and a quiet box, I realize that probably means big CPU cooler which probably limits my case and motherboard choices.
I'm considering this Noctua NH-D15, Premium CPU Cooler with 2x NF-A15 PWM 140mm Fans but it's probably too large for most ITX cases.
What's a decent motherboard that would provide good macOS compatibility and help keep things quiet?
Can anyone recommend a small quiet case?
Can I get away with relying on the Core i9 integrated GPU?
Do I need an additional network card for iMessage, Handoff, etc?
Thanks!
