Is it better to install Mac directly on your laptop, an external hard drive, or an external SSD drive (my old hard drive before upgrading)? Is there that big of a difference?

And if I do it on my laptop, VirtualBox is the way to go I’m assuming?

Edit: For the record, it’s just so I can code iOS apps. Nothing else.
