Freshly installed copy of Big Sur hangs on boot screen

So I've been trying in vain to install either Big Sur or Monterey onto my mid 2010 Mac Mini. Monterey gets stuck in a reboot loop after it finishes the second phase of the install. Big Sur gets a bit further, but during the first boot where it would normally take you to the setup screens (username, etc), it just hangs here and never gets any further. Does anyone here have any ideas of ways I could get this to work?
