Monitoring Heat on Legacy Air Models
If you're running a modern OS via OCLP on a MacBook Air, it's normal for it to run hotter than it did on original software.
Temperature Guide:
- Idle: 45°C - 55°C is normal for a patched Mac.
- Load: 80°C - 95°C is common during updates or heavy browsing. Intel CPUs are designed to handle up to 100°C before throttling.
- Repasting: If your idle temps are consistently above 65°C, it's time to repaste. The original Apple paste from 2013-2017 is likely dry and brittle by now.
- Fan Control: Use Macs Fan Control to set the fan to 'Sensor-based' on the CPU Proximity, starting at 60°C and maxing at 90°C.
