Hi all,
Did a build with some slightly older parts I had lying around. Install went well, except video decoding is always done in software and I can't figure out why.
Specs:
- CPU: Intel i7 3770S
- MB: MSI Z77-G41
- GPU: EVGA GTX 960 SSC 2GB
- mac OS 10.13.6
- Clover with NVRAM emulation (Multibeast 10.4.0)
- iMac 14,2 BIOS (same result with Mac Pro 5,1)
- Nvidia Web Drivers 387.10.10.10.40.113
- HD 4000 iGPU DISABLED in BIOS - made UI sluggish, and reboot (kernel panic?) if Lilu+WG enabled
- Lilu + WhateverGreen (Didn't install at first but thought it might help with decode. It didn't. Left in after disabling iGPU)
I was suspicious at first due to high CPU usage in QuickTime, and did a bunch of tests comparing CPU time for 30 second clips between QT and mpv. Even though QT spawns VTDecoderXPCService, that appears to be falling back to its own software decoder? And it's slower than mpv for H.264, but faster than mpv for H.265. Does videotoolbox even have software decoding built in?
Then I noticed this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/a2uwcs/need_help_enabling_video_decode_acceleration_7970/
Downloaded VideoProc, and in its hardware info section, both H.264 and H.265 are shown as unavailable.
Any ideas? Thanks
