Resolving DYMO and Brother Printer Errors
Printer issues in macOS Sequoia on a 2013 iMac are often due to the new security permissions for USB devices or legacy driver incompatibility.
Fixes for DYMO and Brother:
- USB Permissions: In Sequoia, you must 'Allow' USB accessories to connect. Check for a prompt in the top right corner when you plug in the printer.
- Legacy Drivers: For the DYMO Twin Turbo, try installing the 'DYMO Label Software v8.7.5' instead of the newer 'Dymo Connect'. The older version is often more stable on patched Macs.
- Brother AirPrint: Most Brother Laser printers support AirPrint. Try adding the printer in System Settings > Printers & Scanners without downloading any drivers; macOS should detect it automatically over Wi-Fi or USB.
- Stability Note: If printing is critical, macOS Monterey is significantly more stable for legacy hardware drivers than Sequoia.
Original Question: "Can't get printers to connect"
I bought a 27 inch iMac and additional Thunderbolt display off marketplace. It was much older than the one I am trying to replace. I was fine with that until I realized I couldn't run the Chrome browser on Catalina. So I am very happy to have found OCLP.
27" Late 2013 iMac
I now have the machine running Sequoia but I can't get my printers connected. I use a DYMO twin turbo (dymo connect is not seeing the printer at all) and a Brother Laser printer.
I have not downloaded drivers for the Brother yet because I need to focus on the Dymo.
I am ok with the idea of rolling back to something earlier than Sequoya if it will add any stability.
I would appreciate any help please.
