Understanding Wi-Fi Requirements in macOS Recovery
Whether you need Wi-Fi in Recovery depends on how you created your OCLP installer.
Key Scenarios:
- Full Installer USB: If you used OCLP to create a 'Full Installer' (approx. 12GB-14GB), you do not need Wi-Fi to install the OS. Everything is on the stick.
- Internet Recovery: If you are booting into Apple's native Internet Recovery (Cmd+Opt+R), Wi-Fi is mandatory to download the recovery image from Apple's servers.
- Post-Install: Even if the installation works offline, you will need Wi-Fi (or Ethernet) later to download the Post-Install Root Patches in the OCLP app.
Warning: Never attempt an installation with a low-power (5W) charger. The Mac might shut down during the firmware update phase, which can lead to a bricked logic board. Use the original 60W/85W MagSafe adapter.
Original Question: "Does recovery require Wi-Fi?"
so I was in the “install macOS” recovery without wifi and before i would install it it was almost dead because I have a 5w charger…. so I’m wondering would it work without wifi so I could install it tomorrow
