How to Fix GarageBand Startup Crashes on MacBook Pro 2014

Resolving 'New Project' Crashes in GarageBand

If GarageBand (v10.4.14) crashes when starting a new project on your 2014 MacBook Pro, it's likely a conflict with the legacy graphics acceleration or a corrupted template database.

Fixes to Try:

  1. Reset Preferences: Hold Option while opening GarageBand to reset the preferences.
  2. Clear Templates: Go to ~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Working Directory and clear the contents.
  3. Root Patches: Ensure your OCLP graphics patches are up to date. Audio apps often rely on GPU acceleration for the UI.
  4. Downgrade Version: If the latest GarageBand remains unstable, try downloading an older version (v10.3.x) from your App Store 'Purchased' tab.

Original Question: "Garageband startup bug"

Garageband crashes when i want to start a new project, if i open an existing one it does work , but starting a new one makes it crash right away.

I use Garageband Version 10.4.14 on an Macbook Pro 11,1 (mid 2014 base model)

Is there a fix for this or is it time to upgrade (i know it is)
