Restoring your iMac to Factory macOS
If your iMac is stuck in a bootloop with Windows or ChromeOS, you need to clear the non-Apple bootloaders and restore the native recovery system.
Restoration Guide:
- Clear NVRAM: This is the first step to stop the Windows bootloop. Hold
Cmd + Opt + P + Ron boot for three chimes. - Internet Recovery: Hold
Cmd + Opt + R. This will attempt to load the official Apple recovery over Wi-Fi. - Disk Utility Wipe: Once in Recovery, click 'View' > 'Show All Devices'. Select the top-level drive and click Erase. Format as APFS (or Mac OS Extended if it's an older model).
- Reinstall: Select Reinstall macOS. This will install the original OS your Mac shipped with.
Note: Since you don't have another PC, Internet Recovery is your only option. If it fails, you will need to borrow a Mac to create a USB installer.
