How to Fix Migration Assistant Hangs on iMac 2011 with OCLP Ventura

Fixing Migration Assistant Issues on Legacy iMacs

Hangs during Migration Assistant on macOS Ventura are common on the 2011 iMac due to the legacy USB and Ethernet drivers not being fully active during the setup process.

Recommended Fixes:

  1. Skip and Migrate Later: Complete the initial setup without migrating. Once you reach the desktop, apply the Post-Install Root Patches in OCLP. Then, open Migration Assistant from the Utilities folder.
  2. Use Target Disk Mode: Connect the two Macs via FireWire/Thunderbolt and use Target Disk Mode for a more stable connection.
  3. Monterey Alternative: If Ventura continues to hang, macOS Monterey is significantly more stable for the 2011 iMac and has better Migration Assistant compatibility.
  4. Check SSD TRIM: Ensure sudo trimforce enable is active, as slow disk writes can cause MA to timeout.

Original Question: "iMac 12.1 (21.5”) with OCLP to Ventura hangs on migration assistant?"

I managed to get Ventura installed on my mid 2011 iMac and seems to run OK but I cannot use migration assistant.
iMac has 12gb and a Samsung SSD.

It just hangs on the MA setting up screen. I left it for three hours and still nothing. I then have to force quit as the buttons are greyed out.

Any ideas?

Or should I try Monterey instead?
