Resolving Boot Picker Issues on iMac 14,2
If your iMac Late 2013 refuses to show the OpenCore picker and boots straight to Catalina, the 'bless' command is likely failing or targeting the wrong partition.
Advanced Troubleshooting:
- Unplug External Drives: Disconnect the 'My Passport' and any other USB drives. Only have the OCLP USB installer plugged in.
- Terminal Blessing: Boot into Catalina, open Terminal, and run:
sudo bless --mount /Volumes/EFI --setBoot --nextonly(adjust the mount point to your EFI partition). - Check OCLP Settings: In the OCLP app, ensure Show Boot Picker is checked. If it's unchecked, OpenCore will skip the menu and boot the default OS.
- Firmware Password: Check if your Mac has a Firmware Password enabled. If so, the Option key and third-party bootloaders will be blocked until it is removed.
Original Question: "Late 2013 Mac having issues"
Late 2013 iMac (iMac14,2), Catalina 10.15.8, Samsung 870 Evo SSD. OpenCore 2.4.1 installed correctly to internal EFI, external My Passport EFI, and a bootable USB installer with Ventura. NVRAM reset done. Boot picker never appears regardless of method. Option key at every possible timing does nothing. Machine boots straight to Catalina every time. What am I missing?
