The Truth About macOS Tahoe and OCLP Support
As of May 2026, macOS Tahoe is NOT officially supported by the stable version of OpenCore Legacy Patcher.
Why You Should Wait:
- No Graphics Acceleration: Without Metal patches for Tahoe, your Mac will be painfully slow, with window lag and no video playback support.
- Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Issues: The networking stack in Tahoe has changed significantly, and legacy drivers are still being reverse-engineered.
- Boot Loops: Many users report infinite boot loops or 'Prohibited' symbols when trying to force the upgrade.
- Data Loss Risk: Tahoe uses a newer version of the APFS structure which might make it difficult to downgrade back to Sequoia without a full wipe.
Recommendation: Stick to macOS Sequoia 15.x until the OCLP team releases a stable version with Tahoe support.
Original Question: "Why are people seemingly incapable of understanding that Tahoe is not supported by OCLP?"
The number of Tahoe-related posts in this subreddit is absolutely ridiculous. We have a sticky post at the top of the subreddit, yet pretty much every day I open Reddit I see a new post about how someone upgraded to Tahoe and its not working properly, or asking if they should upgrade to Tahoe. It's mind numbingly stupid and irritating. Are people's attention spans that bad nowadays that even reading is beyond them?
Sorry for the rant but it's so annoying!
