macOS Tahoe Stability on MacBook Pro 2018 (T2 Chip)

macOS tahoe

Is it Safe to Install Tahoe on a T2 MacBook Pro?

For a 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro (15,1) with an i9 and Radeon 560X, macOS Tahoe is still in the 'experimental' phase in 2026.

The T2 Factor:

  1. Kernel Panics: The T2 chip manages security and power. Experimental OCLP builds can cause 'BridgeOS' panics, which lead to sudden restarts.
  2. EFI Bricking: While rare, a corrupted OpenCore write to the EFI can prevent the T2 chip from verifying the boot path. Always have a second Mac ready to use Apple Configurator for a DFU restore if things go wrong.
  3. Performance: The i9 runs hot. Tahoe's new background processes may cause thermal throttling more frequently than Sequoia.

Verdict: Only upgrade if you have a full backup and don't mind occasional crashes. For work, stick with Sequoia.

Original Question: "Macbook 15,1 Tahoe Stability?"

Yo so im looking to maybe upgrade to tahoe with oclp 3 but i heard a lot of things with the T2 chip causing kernel panics or sometimes bricking the entire efi partition, so to anyone who has tested with these specs pls tell me how well it works:

- Macbook 15,1 (Macbook Pro 2018 15'inch)

- Intel core i9

- Radeon pro 560x

Thanks!
