Moving Data from a Patched Mac to a Supported Mac
Restoring a Time Machine backup from a 2011 Mac Mini (OCLP) to a 2014 model (Native Monterey) is straightforward but requires one critical step to avoid OCLP 'pollution'.
Tips and Tricks:
- Migration Assistant: Do NOT perform a full system restore during the initial setup. Instead, set up the 2014 Mac Mini as a new machine, then use Migration Assistant.
- Select Data Only: In Migration Assistant, select 'Applications', 'User Folders', and 'System Settings'. Uncheck any 'Other files' or 'Library' folders that might contain OCLP kexts or OpenCore configurations.
- Clean Up: After migration, check
/Library/Extensionsfor any kexts starting with 'OC' or 'Lilu' and remove them to ensure the new system stays 'native' and stable.
Original Question: "Time Machine Restore to Newer Model of Mac Mini - Tips or Tricks?"
I have a 2011 Mac Mini running macOS Monterey with OCLP that just gave up the ghost. I would like to use the Time Machine backup to restore it on to a 2014 Mac Mini that is able to natively run macOS Monterey but don't want to install OCLP on the new system.
If anyone has any tips or tricks they could pass along it would be greatly appreciated.
