Safe Data Migration on Patched Macs
Migrating a large music library or user data to an OCLP-patched Mac is very similar to the native process, but with one critical rule: Do not migrate System Settings.
Recommended Migration Path:
- Time Machine Backup: Create a full backup of your Monterey system on an external SSD.
- Clean Install: Perform a clean install of Ventura or Sonoma on your MacBook Pro 9,2.
- Migration Assistant: During the initial setup, choose 'From a Mac, Time Machine backup, or Startup disk'.
- Select Data Only: Select your User Account, Applications, and Other Files. Uncheck 'System & Network' to prevent old kexts or boot variables from breaking your new OCLP environment.
- Root Patches: Once the migration is finished and you are at the desktop, run the OCLP Post-Install Root Patches immediately.
Original Question: "Planning to Patch MacOS Ventura/Sonoma, and had questions about data transfer."
Hello,
I have plans to upgrade my MacBook Pro 9,2 from patched Monterey, to either Ventura or Sonoma. I have a rather large music library that I have put together over the last few years, and i was wondering if I were to use Time Machine to create a backup on a external SSD, I would be able to use that as a way to transfer my data to my "new" MacBook once it has finished updating? Kind of like how a iPhone can set up itself as a clone of the old iPhone through the wireless transfer process at first boot? I just wanted to know in case there is some different clause for MacBooks that are patched to the OS rather than being natively supported.
