Should You Upgrade MacBook Pro 9,2 to macOS Sequoia?

macOS sequoia

Evaluating Sequoia Performance on the 2012 Non-Retina MBP

With 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, your MacBook Pro 9,2 is the best-equipped model for macOS Sequoia, but there are trade-offs compared to Monterey.

Performance Breakdown:

  1. Loading Times: Since you have an SSD, loading times will remain fast. However, the CPU (Ivy Bridge i5) will work harder to handle Sequoia's background processes, which can lead to more fan noise.
  2. Battery Life: Expect a 15-20% decrease in battery life compared to Monterey. Sequoia is not optimized for 14-year-old power management hardware.
  3. Stability: Sequoia is surprisingly stable on the 9,2 model, but you must apply the Intel HD 4000 root patches for a usable UI.

Verdict: If you need modern app support, upgrade. If battery life is your priority, stay on Monterey.

Original Question: "Questions about how the newer MacOS run on MacBook Pro 9,2?"

Hello, currently patched on MacOS Monterey, and its been a few years with using this version of MacOS, and I was wondering if there was anyone who has used a newer version patched onto MacBook Pro 9,2(Mid 2012, non-retina, 13in)?

I have 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SATA SSD in the i5 model. I was thinking of upgrading to sequoia, but I was skeptical with how well it would run considering the age of my hardware and how it would impact battery life and loading times.
