How to Fix Google Maps Crashes in Safari 26 (OCLP)

Resolving 'Problem Repeatedly Occurred' Errors

Safari 26 introduces new WebCore features that can conflict with legacy graphics patches on Mac Pro 5,1 models, especially when loading heavy sites like Google Maps.

Debug/Develop Fixes:

  1. Disable GPU Process for Canvas: In the 'Develop' menu > Experimental Features, uncheck GPU Process: Canvas Rendering. This forces the CPU to handle the map rendering, which is more stable.
  2. WebGL Settings: Try toggling 'WebGL Draft Extensions' off in the same menu.
  3. User Agent: Change your User Agent to 'Safari 17' to see if Google serves a more compatible version of the site.
  4. Recommendation: Since it works in Firefox, use Firefox for mapping tasks until a newer OCLP root patch addresses the Safari 26 rendering bugs.

Original Question: "Safari 26 - Google Maps issue"

Mac Pro 5,1 with Metal2 GPU AMD HD 7950, Mac-flashed. Sequoia 15.7.7 but this has been happening since 15.5.5 when I went to Safari 26.

Yes, I guess it wasn't the smartest idea to let Safari update to v26, but ever since I did (including the new 26.5 today) I can't open Google Maps (or any site that embeds it). At first it shows, but then refreshes a couple of times & just posts a blank page with the error "A problem repeatedly occurred with 'https:www.google.com/maps' " & gives me the option to refresh - which just repeats the same thing.

I've got Develop & Debug both available to me - does anyone know what I could switch off or on to prevent this?

Maps works in Firefox. Orion will not run for me at all since I went from Mojave to Sequoia last year.
