The Social Impact of OCLP: Reviving Technology for Good

Bridging the Digital Divide with Legacy Macs

The OCLP project isn't just for enthusiasts; it's a vital tool for low-income families and small IT businesses. Keeping a 2014 or 2017 iMac running provides a professional-grade computer for those who otherwise couldn't afford one.

Why Legacy iMacs are Great for Business:

  1. High-Quality Displays: The 27-inch 5K and 1440p screens are still among the best in the industry.
  2. Reliability: Once an SSD is installed, these machines are incredibly robust daily drivers.
  3. Cost-Effective: A donated 2014 iMac + $30 SSD = a powerful business workstation that can run modern software for years.

Original Question: "Huge thanks to developers of OCLP"

Hello, I'm a low income and disabled individual who has started an IT business serving low income customers. We have benefited from OCLP immensely. As an example, two years ago we refurbished and gifted a 2017 iMac which was donated to us to an immigrant family from Africa who has since used it without issue as a personal and business computer. She has since become a good friend and paying client. My own 27" 2014 iMac is also a daily driver and main business computer for the past three years with nary a hiccup. I'm hugely grateful and want to say that the developers should feel very proud of their service to our community. Technology that still works efficiently at a task should never become obsolete!
