Reverting Safari Versions in macOS Sequoia
If you installed an experimental version of Safari (like v26) and want to go back to the stable v18 on your Mac Pro 5,1, you cannot simply 'uninstall' it.
The Restoration Process:
- Overlay Reinstall: You can run the macOS Sequoia Installer app directly from your Applications folder. This will 'overlay' the system files and restore Safari 18 without touching your user data.
- No Boot Stick Needed: Since you have a Metal-compatible GPU and can see the screen, you don't need the USB boot stick to start the overlay install.
- Root Patches: After the reinstall finishes, you must re-apply the OCLP Post-Install Root Patches, as the installer will have overwritten the patched drivers.
Original Question: "To get back to Safari 18 instead of 26"
It seems the only way to get back to Safari 18 is to overlay the entire OS again. Can I run the macOS installer from Applications, or do I have to go back through the boot stick method?
I'm on Sequoia 15.7.7 on a Mac Pro 5,1 with Mac-flashed Metal2 capable GPU so I've no issues seeing the screen before login.
