Idea about intel wifi... via PCI passthrough to VM?

Since we already have iwlwifi for linux, maybe we could get iwlwifi running over linux VM (xhyve for example) on hackintosh and then pci passthrough the mvm card to that VM. control the wifi connection via sshing to linux vm, and forward all incoming/outcoming ports through that VM.

Before testing this I'd rather like to know if intel wifi card passthrough works over linux host / linux guest. (MacOS hodt doesnt support pci passthrough so we have to create some passthrougher kext and patch xhyve to use that. Thats a lot of work, so I wanna make sure that this idea even works at all.)

Expected culprit: We all had disabled vt-d on mac, and I don't know what vt-d is except that it's related to passthroughings. I dont think I could learn & implement all this as I dont know how PCI works at all.

Has anybody digged through this? I know there are some works regarding porting iwlwifi to kext (like AppleIntelMVMWifi github projects), but it seems like none of them got past the firmware uploading.
