Weird audio issue

I am on Catalina 10.15.3. Vanilla install.

CPU: i7-8700K

GPU: RX Vega 64

RAM: 32 GB DDR4

Motherboard/Laptop model: ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming

Audio Device: JDS Labs OL DAC via USB going into a JDS Labs Atom Amp going into bookshelf speakers.

Fenvi T919 for Wifi/BT

Here's my issue: Audio works great, but at random times (sometimes 15 minutes after boot, sometimes in an hour) it will fizzle and start shorting out before going completely mute. I cannot predict when it happens. To fix it, I must open the Audio MIDI Setup, go to my DAC, and then change between options in the format dropdown menu.

Audio will start working again. I have tried all the options in this dropdown and none of them are a permanent solution.

Has anyone experienced this before and how can I troubleshoot this? Thanks. Everything else works fine except sleep/wake but I will deal with that another time.
